As per the latest updates, Google has finally claimed its acquisition in the popular mobile learning app – Socratic. This announcement was mentioned in the message where they announced the relaunch of the app on iOS. This disclosure came into light when Google stated that they purchased the app last year in March on Linkedin.
Socratic stepped in the market in 2013 farming the creators Chris Pedregal & Shreyans Bhansali. It was in 2015 when the application raised $6 million funding when it hit the mark of 500,000 students. It was then when the company decided to change the module of the app from a simple QnA platform to more utility-based functionality.
The app was launched in 2013 by Chris Pedregal & Shreuans Bhansali. In 2015, They raised $ 6 million Series A funding. Not only this but in 2015 they also hit their milestone of engaging 500,000 students. The journey in 2015 for Socratic did not stop here, they included the feature enabling the students to take pictures of the homework question allowing them to get instant responses from experts. In February 2018, the company announced the removal of social features. The same year in June, they decided to close its Q&A website to user contributions. This decision led to huge disappointment among the users. Soothing this vigorous disappointment, the Community Lead Becca McArthur released a statement –
“We, as anyone, are bound by the constraints of reality—you just can’t do everything—which means making decisions and tradeoffs where necessary. This one is particularly painful,”
Apparently, they strategized all this to make Socratic a Google AI-powered product. As per the update on Google from Bhansali, present engineering manager at Socratic this change in technology will definitely make this app even more useful for users.
As per the announcements, updates, and information, this new iOS version of Socratic still holds the feature of allowing students to snap a picture of homework to get the instant solution. Along with this students can also ask questions on the app to get the top matched results along with the explainers, Q&A section on the topic, and related Youtube plus web links.
In addition to these features, the app also features the subject guides along with 1000+ higher education & high school topics.
